Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He Claims They Should Face Capital Punishment

Democratic officials expressed fury after former President Donald Trump alleged a contingent of Democratic congress members of being "traitors" and declared they should be taken into custody and sentenced "with execution" following their publication of a controversial video.

The Content That Triggered the Dispute

The clip, shared on earlier this week, features six Democratic lawmakers who in the past acted in armed forces or intelligence roles.

"Like us, you all made an oath to protect and uphold this national charter," the officials stated in the brief video. "And right now, the dangers to our governing document don't only come from abroad, but from domestically. Our regulations are unambiguous, you can refuse illegal orders, you can reject improper directives, you have to decline illegal orders. No one has to execute directives that contravene the law or our constitution."

Trump's Incensed Response

The clip seemed to provoke a angry response from the former president.

On the following morning, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional message, he wrote: "This represents really serious, and Risky to our United States. Their comments cannot be allowed to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third message, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a statement that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Representatives Respond

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, Democratic leadership released a unified announcement censuring the comments.

"Partisan aggression has no place in America," they stated. "Representatives who participated in the video all acted our United States with exceptional loyalty and distinction. We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and risky death threats against members of Congress, and urge Republican lawmakers to forcefully do the same."

The party representatives also said that they had been in communication with security officials "to ensure the protection of these representatives and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must without delay take down these radical social media posts and retract his dangerous language before he causes harm," the announcement added.

Officials' Defiant Response

The representatives who participated in the video also published a statement.

"We are former service members and defense specialists who love this country and made an pledge to defend and defend the founding document of the United States," they declared. "Our pledge lasts a lifetime, and we intend to keep it. No threat, coercion, or call for violence will stop us from that important responsibility."

"The significant point is that the ex-president deems it liable to punishment by death for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they added. "Military personnel should understand that we have their support as they fulfill their vow to the founding principles and duty to obey only proper directives. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our obligation."

They stated: "Every American must come together and censure the president's requests for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a time for moral clarity."

More Political Comments

The Opposition leader also condemned Trump's comments and posted on online networks: "It's important to understand: the ex-commander in chief is requesting the death of elected officials."

He added: "This is an clear THREAT. Each congressional member, all representatives, every American – without partisan consideration – should censure this right away and unconditionally."

The Republican House speaker defended Trump's claim that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", characterizing the video as "highly unsuitable", stating: "It is very harmful, you have prominent officials of the legislature advising military personnel to disobey orders, I think that is unprecedented in US history."

The Republican leader also reportedly informed media outlets that in what he read of Trump's messages, Trump was "defining the crime of rebellion" but that "legal experts have to analyze the terminology and establish all that."

Executive Branch Response

During a executive branch meeting on later that day, when inquired by a media member, "Would the president want to execute elected officials?", the administration spokesperson answered: "Absolutely not."

"We should understand about what the former president is reacting to," the representative said. "There are sitting members of the American legislature who coordinated to orchestrate a digital communication to members of the US military, to active duty service members urging them to ignore the president's proper directives."

She added: "The purity of our defense system depends on the hierarchy, and if that structure is compromised, it can cause casualties, it can cause disorder, and precisely what these members of Congress ... are essentially promoting."
