President Trump Calls Families of Attacked National Guard Personnel to White House
Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump addressed journalists. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Support
Attendees came together over the weekend at the high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to aid public safety in Washington DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” the principal, the head of her alma mater, stated to the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to assist people.”
Funeral details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Steps and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The incident prompted the government to halt refugee claims and halt providing entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader the governor stated on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed a news show that she also intended to meet with his relatives.
Impact of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” the governor informed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
