The Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Versus Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first Fall Classic after the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the American League Championship Series.
Down three runs to one, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 triumph in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the anticipated World Series.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an amazing experience."
The veteran has now slugged 23 total October home runs, ranking him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"I can't think of anyone else in the world that I want up in that moment besides George Springer with his playoff prowess," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the sole team yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it's painful" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts throughout the year.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of this game," he added.
Toronto's team claimed the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
