The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a girl containing several personalities within her must escape from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her reside four separate souls, all possessing unique anxieties and motivations. These entities can take over at will, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy hospital, while other scenes show the main character exploring a desolate church.

A World of Personal Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves controlling the persona that emerges at any given time. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the protagonist one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the waiting room have large blooms growing from their heads should be. Flowers are a recurring element, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, because each soul can deceive or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one remaining could be a fraud. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
