The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team said at the time there were no intentions for further series.
However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
