The co-founders of the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated that parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the introduction of a new Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, that co-founded the business alongside his partner, announced that he will personally create this new flavor within a personal series showcasing causes the company has been barred from speaking out about.

Longstanding Conflict Involving Founders versus Corporate Owner

The recent development intensifies the ongoing disagreement between the world-famous ice cream maker with Unilever, the British packaged goods corporation which has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders have claimed how Unilever along with its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's from "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Sorbet as a Symbol of Support

Mr. Cohen revealed through social media that he is creating a new watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting consumer ideas regarding naming options plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen stated in a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol for support for the Palestinian people because of its coloration, that closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement and Current Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in areas under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company transferring their Israel business over to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming product line is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious ice cream brand that was first established several years back to support former US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes and Upcoming Plans

The founder revealed that he will create other frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

The announcement comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at the company recently, after decades with the organization, mentioning concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been compromised after Unilever's decision to curb their advocacy work.

At that time, Mr. Cohen stated how “My partner has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."

“My conscience compels me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that it can achieve the social mission, the values that established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he explained to journalists.
